Detroit --Detroit Police announced today it has reclassified the number of homicides for 2008 as 375, 36 more than previously reported. One month after The Detroit News reported the department systematically undercounts homicides, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing today said the statistics "called for a reconciliation of data to determine an accurate number of homicides" in the city.

Detroit --A lack of evidence is forcing the release tonight of the sole suspect in custody for Tuesday's shooting of seven youths near Cody Ninth Grade Academy, according to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy.

Lansing -- U.S. Army Major Miles Gengler was sworn in as a Michigan attorney today -- from 6,300 miles away in the Green Zone in Baghdad.

Detroit -- Mayor Dave Bing is to meet with the U.S. Attorney General's office today to look at ways to curb violence in the city. This meeting was scheduled before a Tuesday incident in which seven young people were shot at a bus stop on the city's west side.

Washington -- Traffic deaths fell to their lowest level since 1961 in the United States last year, the Transportation Department reported today.
